Our Keratin Smoothing Treatment works wonders for an allover smoothing of hair, taming of flyaways, and cutting down on drying time. But what if you don’t actually need a full-head treatment? What if, instead, you only have a few different sections hellbent on rebellion?
Time to add our new Mini Keratin Treatment option to your next haircut! (We did it because we love you.) Meg is giving us the ins and outs of Keratin Treatments, explaining the difference between the two, and showing us the Mini Keratin service in action.
Q: What is a Keratin Treatment?
A: A Keratin Treatment is a semi-permanent service that is used to smooth down incongruent texture in your hair. It is not used to make it stick straight; rather, it relaxes your curl or wave pattern just a little bit to make it more manageable, diminishing flyaways and the infamous aura that can be caused by strands of hair that refuse to lay nice with the others. It just sleeks everything down a little bit.
Our new Mini Keratin Treatment, by contrast, is great for pinpointing individual sections of hair that we might be struggling with, say, the bits over our ears or along the nape of our neck if their texture causes them to stick out in a way that is at odds with the rest of our hair.
Q: Who do you recommend Keratin Treatments for?
A: Really just about anybody who has some texture to their hair that they feel like they struggle with or fight would be a good candidate for either a full Keratin (if it is all over) or a Mini Keratin (if it is only in a few places).
Also, people with curls and waves sometimes want to flat iron their hair, which can be difficult because they’re fighting the natural texture of their hair. The Keratin just makes that process more simple, and it can actually help in both directions, because if you’re going to wear your hair natural, it keeps your curl or wave pattern more consistent.
Q: Who should avoid them?
A: People who are very blonde (like Krista, in the video) will want to proceed with caution because of the risk of the treatment yellowing their hair. In Krista’s case, we are doing such a small amount of hair and know she has gotten Keratin Treatments in the past with no issues, so we are not concerned about this.
People who have very processed hair are not always a good candidate and folks who are after that very sleek, sort of glass-hair look, should know that this is not that and won’t provide their desired results.
Prior to any full Keratin Smoothing Treatment service, we do require a consultation so we can get an idea of what your hair is like and what your goal is so we can ensure it is the best fit for you.
Q: What is the process like?
For a full Keratin, in a very condensed nutshell (they can take a couple hours!), we apply the solution and let it sit for the required time. Then, we blow it dry, flat iron it, rinse it out, and finish off with a nice blow-dry.
For a Mini Keratin, it’s about a half an hour and can only be added onto a Shampoo & Blow-Dry or Haircut service. You come in, you say, “These pieces are making me feel bonkers, please help me,” and we say, “Okay!”
Then, we spray only those sections down and apply the solution. You hang out for fifteen minutes, then we blow-dry, flat iron, and shampoo you like we normally would before continuing on with your service.
Look out for the Mini Keratin Treatment add-on when booking online or ask our office staff to include it when booking over the phone!
