If your Ginger & Maude hair appointment includes a coloring or lightening service, gather ‘round as we share not one, but TWO secrets to color success that you absolutely must know. (After all, what are friends for?) We’re talking about our Bond Builder and Color Lock treatments.
We’re kind of obsessed with them, and for good reason: each is an add-on that allows us to give a little extra boost of care and love to your hair.
While both treatments are used during our hair coloring services as what we like to call “hair insurance,” they work in different ways, meaning your individual hair needs and goals determine which one (or maybe both!) will be best for you. Today we’re breaking down exactly what each is meant to do, and Lead Stylist Reegan is telling us which clients she is likely to recommend them for.
Bond Builder:
Bond Builder is here to safeguard and serve. It is a two-part application process that works to protect the elasticity, shine, integrity, and longevity of your hair by supporting bond stability and strengthening hair fiber. We love that it is deeply nourishing and revitalizing, preventing breakage and leaving your hair healthier in a way you can actually see and feel.
Reegan especially recommends it for:
-Fine or compromised hair: Both fine and compromised hair are already more susceptible to breakage, so we want to maintain integrity as much as we can. Adding Bond Builder is a great way to support and protect it through the coloring process.
-Curly hair: Curl patterns can be disrupted by chemical services, causing them to lose their shape (sad face). Bond Builder helps stave this off, making sure your curls stay nourished and defined.
-Blonding: Lightening hair is notoriously hard on it, so we really want to stay mindful of its overall strength and health. Bond Builder essentially acts like an insurance for that, creating a kinder blonding experience for our hair. (If you really want to double down, add on Color Lock as well!)
Color Lock:
Trying to escape the dreaded hair color fade? We hate it too. To preserve the life of your color, we frequently recommend washing your hair less. We also recommend Color Lock, which, as the name implies, literally locks in your color by sealing it into the hair (for up to 22 washes!). It also protects it from UVA and UVB rays AND enhances its luminosity. For the possibility of keeping our hair looking fresher for longer, we love Color Lock for ALL color services.
Reegan especially recommends it for:
-Created Reds: Reds are notorious for fading easily due to environmental factors, such as hot water and sun exposure. Color Lock helps seal in the color, keeping our reds (and also fashion colors) vibrant for longer.
-Color Changes: When we change the color of our hair, the new color can be susceptible to fading into the older color underneath. Color Lock reduces this risk by locking in that new look and helping your hair hold onto it.
-Vacation Prep: Whether or not your hair has gone through a coloring service, sun protection is a must! Because Color Lock shields against both UVA and UVB rays, adding it as a treatment before setting off on your next adventure will ensure your hair is sun-ready. (As a bonus, it also boosts luminosity and shine, which is perfect for vacation photo-ops. 💁♀️)
Both treatments can be added when prompted during online booking or by request when scheduling over the phone.
