Q: Tell us about yourself!
A: My name is AbyGael I am originally from Merced, California, but have moved to many different towns in the central part of California. I spontaneously moved to Portland, Oregon without even visiting beforehand and absolutely love it here. I just turned 24 and I am an Aquarius (a very deep thinker). I love the sun, nature, bakeries, and shopping, as well as listening to music, learning new TikTok dances, and playing the Nintendo Switch. I have a super sweet black cat named Eddie—he is 3 years old and a Gemini.
Q: What inspired you to become a hairstylist?
A: I have always loved braiding, styling, and coloring my own hair, but one day I was scrolling on TikTok and a girl posted a video of her finishing cosmetology school with a cute song. It really inspired me to go for it, so I enrolled in school that night. I am now a fully licensed cosmetologist and I absolutely love everything in the beauty industry.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about working with the Ginger & Maude community?
A: I am excited to have a salon home and establish myself in this beautiful salon. Ginger & Maude has amazing training that helped me refine my skills and really listen to the client's needs. They make it a safe space, not just for workers but any client who comes in our door, and I feel as if I fit into that since I have always had a genuine love and understanding for people while having a career that helps people feel beautiful about themselves. I am really looking forward to meeting new people and slaying some hair.
Q: Tell us the styles and trends that have you most excited right now?
A: I love trying new styles I find on social media. I have a new hairstyle almost every day. I have been really into subtle vivid placements on natural hair and love everything color, as well as custom blonding.
Q: What is currently your favorite KEVIN.MURPHY product and why do you love it?
A: I love the SHIMMER.SHINE after a good blowout and HAIR.RESORT for wavy and curly textures (it also smells amazing).
Q: If you weren’t a hairstylist, what do you think you would be?
A: A scientist, working at NASA learning about space, or something to do with spirituality. Or in another lifetime (if I was more coordinated) a professional dancer.
Q: Let’s talk about your schedule. When can clients book with you?
A: I will start off working:
Sunday: 3:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Monday: 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
Tuesday: 3:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Wednesday: 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
Thursday: 11:00 am - 6:00 pm
