Hailing from Bend, Syd made her way up to Portland to grace us with her flowing fits, gracious demeanor, and earth-fairy magic. Plus, she is kind to boot and knows all the best spots for the coolest finds (including rad boots).
Q: Tell us about yourself!
A: Hi! My name is Syd, I’m a 22-year-old New Talent from Bend, Oregon. I’m a Sagittarius and very much a free spirit. I live with my ginger partner and our two ginger cats (one’s actually strawberry blonde, but that still counts in my eyes). I’m a bit of a shopaholic, always looking for new pieces to incorporate into my closet (no outfit is complete without a cute pair of boots!) and home. If you need thrift store recommendations, I got you!! I love spending time outside with my family and friends.
I’ve always been very creative and drawn to the arts. I knew I wanted a career where I could be very expressive, which is what led me to hair. Every day I get to use creative problem solving and artistic vision while making people feel good about themselves! I’m a total people person and would love to get to know you in my chair!!
Q: Why did you choose Ginger & Maude as home?
A: I was lucky enough to spend most of my childhood outside in nature and it gave me a deep appreciation for the planet and a strong will to protect the environment. Ginger & Maude’s sustainability is what really drew me to the salon. The beauty industry, unfortunately, can be very wasteful and harmful to the earth so when I found out how much work this company puts into giving back, I knew I had found the right spot.
Q: Tell us the styles and trends that have you the most excited right now?
A: I absolutely looove the 70s resurgence we’re seeing right now, not only in hair but also fashion. I hope shags and bell bottoms never go out of style.
Q: What is currently your fave KEVIN.MURPHY product and why do you love it?
A: I gotta say it’s FRESH.HAIR because I’m a wash-once-a-week kinda gal.
Q: When you aren’t in the salon, how are you most likely to be spending your time?
A: If I’m feeling adventurous you might see me at a local brewery with friends, but I’m more likely to be hiding away at home watching Harry Potter and getting up to some sort of DIY. I’m seeing the Lumineers in Bend in September and I can’t wait!
Q: If you weren’t a hairstylist, what do you think you would be?
A: I would love to be a high school teacher! I had amazing teachers over the years who really shaped me into who I am today. I would love to be able to pass on some of my own wisdom and make an impact on people's lives. Also, we need to pay teachers more.
